Greenwich thrift shop makes national TV
The Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop had its 15 minutes of fame Thursday morning, when the national television show "Good Morning America" dropped by for a feature on shopping thrift.
"It's basically how thrift stores were known as your grandmother's attic, and now they're cool and hip," said "Good Morning America" producer Kelly Hagan , who lives in town.
Greenwich resident Lara Spencer , the lifestyle anchor for the ABC morning show, filmed the segment at the Hamilton Avenue shop, together with producer Kelly Hagan, who also lives in town.
Each February the auxiliary shop features the store's vast selection of wedding items, which currently includes dresses from designers such as Bill Levkoff, Henri Bendel and Alfred Sung, ranging in price from $50 to more than $200. There are also tuxedos from Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers, as well as crystal, silverware and jewelry.
The money spent on a wedding dress also goes to a good cause -- all proceeds from thrift shop sales support patient care programs and medical equipment purchases by Greenwich Hospital.
