Four decades have passed since Cheryll Clark from Massey last slipped into her dream wedding gown.
She married husband Warren on March 27, 1971 at Iona church in Blockhouse Bay wearing the dress designed by prominent designer Vinka Lucas.
The lace and satin gown originally came from Lucas' Auckland store Maree De Maru and came with a cathedral-length train.
"I met my husband in July 1970. We got engaged that November and we were married by March the next year. It was all quite quick and I thought where on earth am I going to find a frock?
"Then I opened up the Western Leader one day and saw this secondhand dress for $60. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it advertised because it would have been worth about $1000."
She didn't waste any time and quickly called the owner.
"It fitted perfectly. It was as though it was made for me," she says. "It was definitely one of those moments people talk about when you see the dress and think that's the one."
